PLASTIC INjECTION

MOLDING

Our Molding Process

Octex employs scientific injection molding, a disciplined approach to determine and control optimum plastic injection molding process parameters.  The result: Consistent, high quality plastic parts for a wide range of industry applications, faster, and more cost effective.

Scientific injection molding establishes consistent, repeatable, data driven molding process parameters. From material selection, optimizing part design, tooling, and process development, Octex systematically eliminates variables that can cause defective or low quality parts.

SCIENTIFIC INJECTION MOLDING

We monitor every stage of the injection molding process to ensure the highest quality plastic parts for our partners and customers.  Process parameters controlled in scientific injection molding include:

  • Material Selection

  • Optimized Part Design

  • Mold Design & Manufacturability

  • Functional Performance

  • Repeatable, Consistent Process

  • Quality Procedures & Workflow

  • Parametric Analysis (Pressure, Fluid Mechanics & Mold Flow, Temperature)

  • Ejection

Scientific injection molding allows us to be proactive and mitigate risk before problems occur.  Automated software and statistical process control tools provide real-time process feedback.

Benchmark elements of Scientific Process Development include:

  • Fill optimization

    • First-stage fill uses velocity control to inject with minimal velocity steps

  • Pressure

    • Second-stage packing pressure must be high enough to finish filling the cavity plus compensate for material shrinkage during cooling

  • Recovery

    • Decompression must be used prior to screw recovery in order to relieve packing pressure

With nearly 200 different raw materials in inventory, we have spent over 25 years refining the art of process technology in commodity and engineering grade resins including PP, PE, PEI, PS, PEEK, POM, PET, PPE, PPS, Nylon & Glass filled Polyamides, Tritan Copolyester, and many others.  If you're considering alternative materials, metal-to-plastic conversion, or need recommendations for specific applications, we can help.
